Dr. Vijaya Desai - “2004 Tsunami Disaster Relief - A Photo Documentary”

In December of 2004, Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy announced the creation of a Jersey City relief fund to aid victims of the tsunami disaster. Dr. Vijaya Desai, President of the Garden State Indian Association, and Dr. Raja Rahula, a Jersey City OB/GYN from Sri Lanka - organizers of the Jersey City Physicians & Healthcare Workers’ Coalition for 2004 Tsunami Disaster Relief - traveled to Sri Lanka On January 20th to personally turn over the first set of proceeds from the Mayor Healy Tsunami Relief Fund. It was during this visit to distribute humanitarian funding for medical supplies and basic necessities that Dr. Desai photographed the documentary images of this exhibition.
