The Jersey Senior Dancers Without Borders will be among featured performers at the Grace Van Vorst Church, 16th Annual Cathedral Arts Festival, which is Hudson County's largest and oldest juried art show. This year will have a special Performing Arts Showcase taking place on Sun, May 1 beginning at 12:30 until 5 PM in the afternoon.

The Jersey Senior Dancers Without Borders , are a Middle Eastern Bellydance troupe of senior women in the Jersey City local area. The dance troupe, led by Kathleen Ferguson (Basmah), who is director, choreographer and teacher, rehearses weekly at the Grace Van Vorst Church in Jersey City where the seniors are members of the Grace Senior Center. Ms. Ferguson, is also Organizer of Jersey City-Hoboken Bellydancers Meetup

Recently, Amy Stone, a seven-time Emmy award winner, produced a segment that reported on the Jersey Senior Dancers Without Borders , on Feb 3rd for New York's CBS "Channel 2 News at Five". They were also featured in the show, Trappings: Stories of Women, Power and Clothing, a Jersey City Museum exhibition produced by "Two Girls Working" on the empowerment of women reflected in clothing. The Jersey Senior Dancers Without Borders motto is, “We are Wise, We are Women, We are Wonderful!”, and show that dancing can be a lifetime pursuit of fitness, health and spirituality.

CapezioDance.com featured the dance troupe as their selected Amateur Team in the October 2004 Newsletter. Previously, the Jersey Journal had covered their weekly dance classes in a column, "Just Josie", written by Josie Syzman and published as "Middle Eastern Style" on August 4, 2004.

Jersey Senior Dancers Without Borders perform at parties, special events, festivals, clubs, galleries, Senior Centers, hospitals, nursing homes and other venues. They combine Middle Eastern folkloric music and dance, from such countries as Egypt, India, Turkey, Greece and others. Their weekly class rehearsals also focus on Middle Eastern culture, including dance styles, costumes, music, history and foods. The Bellydance troupe, were featured performers this past fall at Newport Mall, Jersey City, as part of a charity fundraiser for various organizations and performed last summer as part of the Jersey City Artist Studio Tour 2004.

Jersey Senior Dancers Without Borders are a 501(c) 3, non-profit, non-religious organization, and welcomes donations which benefit the Grace Community Service.
