MONUMENTAL COMES TO VICTORY HALL ON MARCH 25

Victory Hall Cultural Center and the Jersey City Museum present Monumental, a mixed media art exhibit, from March 25 - April 23, 2006.

Opening Reception
Saturday, March 25
7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Victory Hall Cultural Center
186 Grand St. at Marin Blvd., Jersey City

EXHIBIT HOURS:
Saturdays and Sundays from 2pm - 6pm
(closed for Easter, April 16)

Following the great success of last year's Skyway exhibit, Victory Hall and the Jersey City Museum have teamed up for a second time to collaborate on this exciting, Jersey-based show.

Rocio Aranda-Alvarez, Curator of the Jersey City Museum asked artists: What does New Jersey mean to you? If you were commissioned to create a monument to New Jersey, what might it be?

Over 30 artists working in a variety of mediums created proposals for an imaginary monument to New Jersey. The only requirements: an imagination for the large and refined, the dramatic and ostentatious or the quiet and sublime. Since these monuments will never actually be built, artists were encouraged to "spend" lavishly and be inventive! Artists’ works include a written description of the monument (including its title, proposed actual location and reason for being) and a site-specific drawing, collage, painting, photo, digital image or other two-dimensional rendering of the imaginary monument in its specific location, or a small maquette of their monument.
