It's a solid ten minute walk at a brisk pace from the Liberty State Park Light Rail Station to the ferries. Anybody in reasonable health shouldn't experience any difficulty.

All the while that you are walking, you'll have in front of you the breathtaking view of the New York / Jersey City skyline and the harbor.

Particularly since 9/11 -- Jersey City Police, New Jersey State Park Rangers, and Federal Officers all keep close watch on Liberty State Park and the Light Rail. I'd guess that Liberty State Park is probably the safest place in the world.

: I am interested in taking the ferry to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty from Liberty State Park. How far from the ferries does the NJ Transit Light Rail let off? How long will it take to walk and does it drop off in a bad neighborhood?
