The message said that there are two sizes of 2-br apartments at $1400 and $1500 per month, plus there are 3-br townhouses for $2000. The message (recorded in January) said that they were offering 1 month free rent for a 13-month lease, but the message only mentioned one 3-br townhouse being available. I was under the impression that the rents in this development were going to be based on family income. But the rents quoted in the recording sure don't appear to be income dependant. On the other hand, it's possible that a certain number of units are based on income and the rest are rented at "market rates". The units look very nice, but the neighborhood is just awful!!! Extremely seedy, with a lot of shady characters lurking about. There seemed to be a lot of trash on their brand new grass, which I suppose is inevitable in an urban area. Plus, there's an old housing project being torn down right behind the development, which will no doubt create a lot of noise and dirt during demolition. Of course, once the buildings are torn down, there will be at least a year or two of construction, building whatever they plan to put up on that site --- maybe more Lafayette Village units. Keep in mind also that Lafayette Village is only a couple of blocks from the newly built JC Medical Center. So there's bound to be a lot of noise from emergency vehicles headed for the hospital. Having said that, they do appear to have parking. And the neighborhood seems to be 'picking up' a bit. It might be a fairly decent place to live five years from now, but the rents in Lafayette Village will no doubt be highter by then. Personally??? For $1400-$2000, I would look elsewhere.
