NJCU President Carlos Hernandez signs official contracts with Jersey City Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham and the Economic Development Corporation's Executive Director Gene Nelson (back row, center) to establish a Business Development Incubator which will be housed on NJCU's campus. The Incubator will help young start-up businesses get their feet of the ground by providing office space on the city's growing West Side.

The Jersey City Economic Development Corporation, in partnership with New Jersey City University, are in the final stages of construction on a Business Development Incubator aimed at jump-starting growth of the city’s Westside.

The goal of the Incubator is to improve the long-term economic vitality of Jersey City, Hudson County and the State of New Jersey by assisting young, small companies.

The Incubator is part of the smart growth plan for the city’s Westside, called the Bayside Redevelopment Area, of which NJCU plays a vital role.

When fully operational, the Incubator will house 45 start-up companies. The first phase is slated to be ready – with 16 rentable offices and 15 rentable workstations, a kitchen and three conference rooms – by September. The following September, and additional 14 offices, a library, storage rooms and a commons area will be opened.
