Originally appeared in the July / August 2004 issue of Newport News Responding to the ever-increasing request for Jersey City apartment homes near Newport, ground was broken on the Roosevelt, to be located on 10th Street, between Manila Avenue and Luis Marin Boulevard, in the Hamilton Park neighborhood. This latest building joins the highly successful Abraham Lincoln, one block west on 10th Street, which opened in May 2003. The 7-story Roosevelt will have 133 apartments and on-site parking. The building will include a 9,000 square foot park/play area, and space for a street-level convenience store on 10th and Manila. “The Roosevelt will be similar to the Lincoln,” said Michael Bass, Director of Leasing for the Lefrak Organization. “These buildings, smaller in scale than our high rises in Newport proper, allow us to appeal to another sector of the market-place that seeks the same neighborhood ambiance that the Hamilton Park area offers.” The Roosevelt should be ready for occupancy by Fall of 2005.
