VOLUNTEERS NEEDED ON OCTOBER 23 TO HELP
WITH CONSERVATION OF DOCUMENTS IN THE LIBRARY’S NEW JERSEY
ROOM VOLUNTEERS TO BE PART OF THE ANNUAL MAKE A
DIFFERENCE DAY – NATIONAL DAY OF DOING GOOD
JERSEY CITY, NJ October 13, 2004 – People wishing to help save a
part of Jersey City history will find their niche with volunteering on
Saturday, October 23 – when the New Jersey Room of the
Jersey City Free Public Library participates in the annual nationwide
Make A Difference Day, National Day of Doing
Good.
The full day – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Main Library, 472
Jersey Avenue, New Jersey Room, 3rd Floor – will consist of
helping with conservation work on Jersey City and Hudson County historic books,
photographs, family papers, municipal documents, school records, postcards and
maps, which will be guided by Cynthia Harris, director of the New Jersey Room.
Ms. Harris, who holds a masters in library science from Rutgers, New Brunswick
has an extensive background in archival work.
“Volunteers will
help sort, file and compile maps and other archival documents,” said
Cynthia Harris, who will oversee the archival work on Saturday, October 23.
“By participating on Make A Difference Day, you will give the New
Jersey Room a needed boost in helping protect our
documents.”
“We are excited at the prospect of protecting
the contents of our extensive historical collection in the New Jersey
Room,” said Library Director Priscilla Gardner. “And we are thankful
for Melissa’s continuing interest in helping us do
so.”

Day at the New Jersey Room on Saturday, October 23, please

The New Jersey Room will be closed to
the general public on Saturday, October 23, and only will be available to the
people who volunteer to work on projects for Make A Difference
Day.
