THE LINCOLN ASSOCIATION OF JERSEY CITY "The one Association, in this broad land, that has never failed to celebrate his birthday annually, since his death." -- The Honorable William Walter Phelps Dear Friend, The Lincoln Association of Jersey City cordially invites you to participate in its annual tribute to Abraham Lincoln on the anniversary of his birth. The commemoration will begin on Sunday, February 12, 2006 at 1:00 PM at the statue of Lincoln at the entrance to Lincoln Park, Kennedy Boulevard and Belmont Avenue in Jersey City. Dr. Howard Parish, First Vice President of the Association, will be the host. The ceremony will include the reading of the winning essay of the annual student essay competition followed by the presentation of his or her prize award by The Honorable J. Leonard Hornstein, Superior Court Judge of New Jersey (retired), also a past president of the Association. The ceremony will conclude with the placing of a wreath at the statue. Later that evening, at 5:00 PM, the Association will host its 141st annual dinner at The Cas1no in the Park, Lincoln Park in Jersey City. The featured speaker will be Joseph Garrera, President of the Lincoln Group of New York and noted Lincoln scholar. Dr. Jules Ladenheim, past president of the Lincoln Association, will recite President Lincoln's first inaugural address. Also, there will be a musical program of patriotic songs and a special welcome home to members of the New Jersey National Guard who have returned to Jersey City after serving in Iraq and Cuba.
