I moved to the heights 6 months ago...basically the heights is divided by Central ave,m the main shopping strip. On the East side, closer to the Palisades is a poorer area, mostly latino and more crime. West of Central Ave. it improves considerably. I am on Sherman place and there isn't a hint of crime around here. The police station and the fire station are within walking distance, so that helps to keep crime down. Like most places in the NY metro it changes block to block. Since the Palisades is served by the light rail there are many young couples moving in, but it does remain mostly a poor area.
