Jersey City - Our Living Legacy |

Hi! I just stumbled upon this messageboard today. I have an ancestor Stephen DOUGLASS, died January 21, 1857. His wife's name was Jane A., no maiden name known; she was born approximately 1817, and he was born approximately 1809. He was an Episcopal minister. He lived with his family in Oyster Bay, NY as of the 1850 census. As of the 1860 census, Jane and their children- William (whom I am descended from, born August 3, 1844), Jenny (born 1845), Helen (born 1848), Stephen (born 1850), and Anna M (born 1852) lived in "Jersey City Ward 4". Family lore has always said that Stephen worked in Jersey City as an Episcopal minister. My questions are: I need to find out the name of the church he worked at in Jersey City, if family lore is indeed true. How many Episcopal churches are in Jersey City? What are their names/addresses? Which ones actually existed in the 1850's? Thanks for any help!! Karin
