Jersey City - Our Living Legacy |

100 years ago our city fathers decided to create West Side Park (now Lincoln Park) as a large section of town to be used for the enjoyment of our citizens. To do this they had to relocate the houses from the unpaved and muddy segment of Belmont Ave that ran between Hudson Blvd and Westside Ave. They also kicked our local minor league baseball team out of it's field which was located where the large fountain is today. The team finished its season and then relocated to a new field located near where the Miss America Diner is today and played there for 30 years until Frank Hague built Roosevelt Stadium. The muddy wasteland on the west side of town was converted into our version of New York's Central Park and has provided an urban escape for millions over the last 100 years. Happy 100th Birthday Lincoln Park
