: Thomas Gangemi Jr. the original mayor's son ran against Thomas Whelan in the I remember Tom Gamgemi, "The Watermelon King". I can remember [as a young lad] working for Pete [Pop]DeAngelo at the Laffayette Neon Co located at 984 Westside Ave. Pete DeAngelo was Tom Gamgemi's campaign manager when he first ran for mayor. Whenever there was a meeting in Pete's office there would be Pete, Frank Guarrini [?] and Tom, who I called the Three Musketeers. There was also Tony Ameroso, Pete's shop manager, who later became Tom's Superintendant of Sanitation and later owned The Casa Dante on Summit Ave. Truly the best days of living in Jersey City. I might add, knowing to be a fact, that it was Tom Gamgemi's dream to rebuild the Jersey City waterfront as it is today. And also a fact to have Liberty Island added to the Jersey City map since Jersey City was supplying all its utility's and it was in Jersey City waters.
