Hi, I was a patrolman for the Hudson County Police Dept from 1971 to about 1977 and went to work for the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office as a county detective. As I recall it was orginally hudson county police and hudson county park police. It was mainly a traffic control and park police for the county roads and parks. When we were hired then we were the first time since world war two I believe that anyone was hired. At the end of the war the county hired a over two hundred policeman. We were assigned to only work on county and state roads and county parks and property. We able to arrest and take charge of anything we ran into. The new guys, as the old timers called us were always finding more to do where ever something happened. I left New Jersey in 1978 and just retired from the state of Nevada after 23 years of mostly doing fraud investigations. I have a few old pictures in uniform if anyone wants to see them. send me an email and if anybody I knew reads this send me an email. johnkoval@gmail.com : : : I was once told that Hudson Boulevard (pre-Kennedy Blvd.) had its own Police Department and that its jurisdiction was just that - the boundaries of the Boulevard itself. The officers could not attend to crime on any of the side streets - only the Boulevard. Does anyone know if this is true? Thanks. : : yes its true blvd.police were only respon to accident on hudson blvd. curb to curb. in the 60" they were rename john f.kennedy police dept. then name hudson county police which dismanl in 90" i have more infor. please e-mail : My Dad was appointed to the Blvd Police in 1957 and retired from the Hudosn County police in 1987. I know there are not to many officers alive today and i would appreciate any information or memorabilia I can pass along to him it would be a great thing.
