Don't Drive to Downtown Jersey City!

Don't Drive to Downtown Jersey City!

On street parking is very difficult to find. Commuter parking is basically prohibited in all residential areas. Every spot without a meter is either residential, permit or prohibited parking. If you park in any of these places, upon returning, you will almost certainly discover your vehicle ticketed and booted. Don't ruin your trip!

There are a number of pay parking lots.

The PATH subway line stops at Grove Street and at Pavonia/Newport. Most Downtown Jersey City destinations are within walking distance destinations. In any case, taxis and local buses serve the area well.

If you must drive to the area, you're much better off parking at one of these Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Park-Ride lots:

and then taking the Light Rail either to Exchange Place or Newport.

Driving directions to the Liberty State Park Park-Ride Lot from New Jersey Turnpike Exit 14C (Grand-Montgomery):

  1. Take the immediate left at the bottom of the exit ramp.
  2. Make the immediate left onto Merseles Street.
  3. Continue straight (DO NOT GO UP THE RAMP AND BACK ONTO THE TURNPIKE!) for two blocks.
  4. Make a right onto Pacific Avenue.
  5. Watch for Johnston Avenue. Make a left onto Johnston Avenue.
  6. The Light Rail Park-Ride Lot at Liberty State Park is a few blocks up Johnston Avenue on the right.

Purchase monthly or daily parking and transportation together at pay stations located at any of the following Park-Ride lots. Parking will not be offered without the purchase of transportation. The rates are as follows:

People with disabilities can access all Hudson-Bergen Light Rail stations and NJ TRANSIT. Some local bus routes and commuter bus routes are accessible by reservation only. To reserve a lift-equipped bus or for additional accessibility information, please call 1 (800) 722-2287 (voice and TTY).
