Menendez Should Have Stayed Home Urban Times Op-Ed Urban Times News March 14-March 20, 2003 Congressman Robert Menendez last Sunday went South to Birmingham, Alabama to join with Civil Rights Leaders and more than 30 members of Congress in the re-enact- ment of the 1965 Voting Rights Marchs across Edmund Pettus Bridge. This was the Fifth Annual Congressional Pilgrimmage to Selma, Alabama. The conressman reportedly stated "It fills me with pride to march alongside John Lewis, one of our country's greatest civil rights lead- ers." Menendez ought to be ashamed to show his face after he repeatedly banned the first African American Mayor of Jersey City from the Hudson County Democratic Leadership Meeting. Menendez will tell anyone how he is going to destroy Mayor Cunningham no matter what the cost. The Congressman is the worst kind hypocrite. He hides behind Civil Rights leaders trying to appear as though he supports Civil Rights. The Civil Rights fight is all about African American Mayors in Urban areas. Menendez could have saved taxpayers the money for his trip and stayed home.
