I don;t see where any of the candidates would want him back.
The only hope was with Harvey, if somehow he cut a secret deal with Ron Bon for his support in return to get his old job back if Harvey wins.

: While the rest of the candidates were preparing for the second set of public debates, former Police Chief and mayoral candidate Ron Buonocore struggled to maintain his political lifeline in the County Appellate Court. His campaign was first pronounced dead when Superior Court Judge Maurice Gallipoli threw out his case on Monday as well as lawyer Alex Booth's contention that his client's extensive Jersey City public service was some nebulous equivalent of fulfilling resident eligibility requirements. The end was confirmed when the appellate court in Hackensack upheld the previous decision on Wednesday. Now the Buonocore team must prepare for the challenge of reclaiming his job.

: In a letter addressed to Acting Mayor and fellow Buonocore antagonist L. Harvey Smith, mayoral candidate and Assemblyman Lou Manzo said that Buonocore should be fired because he was, "either unaware of the laws governing residency and public office or was deliberately misleading voters about his residency status. Our public safety professionals should remain just that - professionals who do not sink to the political games championed by Mr. Buonocore," Manzo wrote.

: A spokesman, Dave Vermillion, responded to the letter citing Manzo's association with convicted felon and former Jersey City Mayor Gerald McCann, though Manzo is rumored to have since fired McCann as his chief political strategist. "Anyone who counts known criminals among their friends would want to unseat an outstanding police chief," he said. "Louis Manzo is no different."

: Manzo's claims that Buonocore had only been a Jersey City resident since July and was not eligible to run in the upcoming special election were upheld by Superior Court Judge Gallipoli, who said Buonocore's living situation did not meet the standard of a residence as defined by law. Gallipoli also ruled against the chief's challenge to the residency requirement and said that evaluating the requirement on a case-by-case basis would essentially mandate chaos for the legal system. Booth challenged the ruling on constitutional grounds, saying the residency requirement shouldn't apply to the chief because his work experience addressed the reasons for having a requirement in the first place: to ensure a candidate is familiar with local affairs and to give voters a chance to get to know the candidates. It was a stretch in the minds of laymen, and preposterous in the mind of this jurist as well as the Appellate Court. The 54-year-old Buonocore was no longer a candidate.

: Now the Police Chief who rose through the ranks to eventually lead the department and spent nearly his entire adult life working for the city finds himself, like too many Jersey City residents, unemployed. Put on temporary leave by the Acting Mayor, it is unlikely that his former opponent will allow his easy return to the department, a point Smith made clear in a statement earlier this week saying he would not reinstate the police chief regardless of the court ruling.

: Since the appellate court decision, Hudson County Clerk Javier Inclan can now print and send out the necessary Jersey City's ballots. Last Friday, a drawing was held to select the ballot positions for the remaining candidates. Booth has not broached the possibility of an appeal to the state Supreme Court. This plan seems fruitless given that no ruling would come in time for the November special elections.
