First, I shouldn't have to go through the hassle of asking the City to fix my car, if I am going to ask them to fix something it will be the ROADS!! Second, my home is abated. You know, the ones that were voted for by the Councilman? The same man who will reap the benefit of the contribution the developer gave him. (does that count as a paycheck?) Third, NO ONE expects that this be the only job they have. That's why they call it "part-time". I only expect that their full time job isn't one that will interfere with the judgements you make on the city's behalf. How can Council Maldonado ask for funding for expenditures that would not agree with the county government? He works for the county? The need only to threaten his livelyhood and **poof** the needs of the people are sidelined in favor of keeping his job. So you ask... WHAT WOULD YOU DO?????? I agree with those that say that we should have someone in that seat that works in the private sector. His morals stay intact and he can make decisions based on the needs of the people, not his own wallet. : I totally understand where you are coming from but, there are ways to get your car fixed if the city is at fault. You just have to do your research and use the correct avenues (no pun intended). Now I don't condone 3 or more jobs at the expense of taxpayers but I do know that you can't live off of 24000 so you need that extra job and if that person is best qualified for that particular job and it happens to be my niece hey, so be it. That's life. Anyway most of the salaries don't raise taxes, they are a needle in a heystack compared to the money this county spends in contracts. Salaries are already budgeted so we as taxpayers dont even see it.
: : : NO, apparently we the tax payers do... three salaries??? how many bills does this man have that I have to pay for? and STILL get nothing in return????? Guess I wouldn't care, but MY taxes will go up soon, MY roads still look like Sh*t. Who is paying MY BILLS to fix my car? Who is paying MY TAXES???? He wouldn't understand that, he DOESN'T pay taxes here, he DOESN'T own a home in this city! and I imagine the roads are better paved on the way to the shore!!!!
: : : : : : I guess it would come down to the moral issue... can a politician REALLY make good decisions about his constituents when his own Full Time job is at stake? I think not...
: : : : : : : : : : : : : I'm not a lawyer or expert on NJ law. But I do not believe there are any laws against holding two municipal positions in NJ. However, other states like MA do have laws against this, and we probably should as well. I only see this as a problem when it poses a serious conflict of interest. : : : : : : : : : : : : The people who hold two jobs, are they breaking any laws? If so please inform me. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The pay is good considering it's P/T, and yes, a candidate would need a F/T job to get by. But it's quite another thing when one seeks two municipal jobs whose duties come into conflict with one another--Spinello. For example, would an incinerator executive sanction her employer for not picking up your garbage? : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : I noticed that the councilpeople only make crumbs to begin with. Who can live off of 24000 or 22000? Maybe a college kid. I see nothing wrong with trying to pay your bills. Because if you don't you will have some psycho posting all your tax business. Then you will really be a criminal.
