Democrats weak on Homeland Security, Hudson Republicans Step Up!

JERSEY CITY – In a press conference held today in front of the Port Authority’s PATH train station at Exchange Place in Jersey City, Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Doug Forrester, Richard Valdes the GOP Nominee for the New Jersey Legislature in the thirty-third district, and Mrs. Mirta Cairo (R-6) the Hudson County Freeholder Candidate representing Union City, announced their Support for Doug Forrester’s Homeland Security Plan.

Mr. Valdes made the following statement:
“We stand here with the site of 9/11 behind us, and we are reminded of how important our safety is.

Here in our town we have significant security needs - particularly at our commuter stations, including this train station behind us.

We need money to man homeland security efforts, provide the service, and operate the equipment we receive.

But Jon Corzine and the current administration have failed to provide for our security needs.

Jon Corzine has not fought for New Jersey’s fair share of federal funding.

It’s because of these needs that we need Doug Forrester to be our next governor.

I am proud to stand with him and support his Homeland Security plan.”

Forrester, Valdes and Cairo were joined by the Former Special Agent in Charge of the Newark Region for U.S. Customs and homeland security expert, Robert Cozzolina, who has over 30 years of experience in Law enforcement and security. Together the group expressed the importance of securing the community in Jersey City and the neighboring waterfront municipalities including, Hoboken, Weehawken, Guttenberg and West New York.

“My Homeland Security plan is built on cooperation between law enforcement and other local agencies, new safety standards, and training for those who keep our communities safe,” said Forrester. “It is time to take back New Jersey from politicians who have put politics above protecting the people of New Jersey.”

“Given my vast experience on this issue, I know how important Homeland Security is to New Jersey. We need a wise leader with a strong plan to guide our Homeland Security efforts, and that is what we have in Doug Forrester,” said Cozzolina.

Valdes further noted:
“I come from a family with a law-enforcement background; I have two older brothers who recently retired from the New York City Police Department. Safety and Security are issues I hold close to heart as my siblings continue to serve in a law enforcement capacity; with one currently serving in the US Transportation Security Administration, and the other directing security for a major New York City Hotel and television network. I myself do what I can, as a volunteer, with the US Department of Homeland Security for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary right here in Hudson County because the safety and security of our ports and train stations is important – not only to the Hispanic Community - but to all of the people of Hudson County and you all, are important to me!”
