: Statement from Senator Bernard F. Kenny, Jr. on Diagnosis of Early Stage Prostate Cancer 

:  Hoboken - Senator Bernard F. Kenny, Jr. released the following statement 
: today: 

:             "After undergoing a routine screening earlier this month, I was 
: diagnosed by my physician with early stage prostate cancer.  My doctors have 
: informed me that because it was detected early, my cancer is treatable and 
: that I should expect a full recovery.  Next week I will undergo surgery at 
: Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick to have my prostate removed. 
: I've been told that after several weeks of rest, I can return to work.  I 
: look forward to resuming my work on behalf of the people of the 33rd Senate 
: district and my service as Majority Leader.   

:             "I was fortunate to catch this cancer early, and because I did 
: so, I am looking forward to a full recovery.  Prostate cancer is treatable 
: in almost every case when caught early.  I hope my experience will serve as 
: a reminder to all New Jerseyans of the importance of seeing their doctors 
: and getting regular screenings."
