NJ Campaign ELEC reports show that the same paid consultant worked for both Flood and Manzo to "Design Marketing Material, Direct Mail and Postage".

The consultant SMDG or Strategic Message Design Group of Woodbury, NJ - a known political consulting group designed campaign literature for both Flood and Manzo at the same time and same race during the last two weeks of the campaign.

SMDG was paid significantly for both ventures.

Manzo for Mayor hired Strategic Message Design Group (SMDG) of Woodbury NJ to do "mailings" for their mayoral campaign. SMDG received payments on 10/21/2004 for $13,000, 10/28/2004 for $5,000, 10/30/2004 for $4,000 and 11/2/04 for $8,100 - for a total of $30,100.

Willie Flood also running for Mayor, hired Strategic Message Design Group also during the same period to create some of their direct mail pieces. SMDG received two payments 10/22/04 for $10,000 for "Marketing Material, Design Layout and Printing" and again SMDG received payment on 10/27/04 for $4,532.84. For a total of $14,532.84

The consulting firm is a known and established political direct mail firm. One will never see the same consultant working both sides in the same race.

While this is highly unethical, and it's sharing campaign information and working on the same ticket, it raises a larger question.

Why?

Was the money for this firm that attractive for the consultant to break ethics and work for two opposing candidates?

Did they know they were working on the same race with two opposing candidate? doubtful.

Or were these two candidates (Flood and Manzo) working in unison the whole time?

Also of interest, why did this consulant come in the last two weeks of both campaign, a time when the last ELEC campaign report is filed before the election, as it will not become an election issue, and was posted on both reports on the after ELEC report. Or was it that they were not paid until after the last pre election report was filed so the payment would show up after the election. In any event it's unethical to work for supposedly opposing candidates.

What is the reason the same consultant who is creating the message and strategy for a campaign and desiging the campaign literature & theme, unethically work for both candidates in the same race, unless the two campaign were co-ordinating their campaigns and their efforts were used as a last ditch effort to push Manzo over the top?
