"Mayor Cunningham to Honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at City Hall Celebration"

JERSEY CITY - Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday during a celebration at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004 in City Hall Council Chambers, 280 Grove Street.

The annual celebration will feature speeches by Mayor Cunningham and directors at the Afro-American History Museum, as well as one of King's civil rights speeches to be delivered by last year's MLK Oratory Contest, which is held during African-American History Month in February.

"This is a great opportunity for the residents of Jersey City to learn about who Martin Luther King was and the contributions he made to the civil rights movement," Cunningham said. "Because of his struggle and ultimate sacrifice, people like myself have the opportunity to realize their dreams. We all owe him the utmost gratitude."

Entertainment and food will be provided during the ceremony. For more information contact Joan Moore in the Cultural Affairs Department at (201) 547-4325.
