The Lincoln Park Historic Trust and The New Jersey Tree Foundation, in partnership with the City of Jersey City, are pleased to announce that we’ll be planting large curbside shade trees this November throughout Jersey City’s Lincoln Park District. This exciting event will be held on Friday, November 5, 2004 from 8:00 am to 12:00 p.m., and we need YOU! About 65 volunteers are needed to assist throughout the day to help dig tree pits, place the trees in the ground, and finally mulch each tree to complete the tree planting process. Jersey City DPW, Lincoln Park Historic Trust members, and NJ Tree Foundation staff will be on-hand to assist all volunteers. Tools and gloves will be provided and a free lunch is offered. Every May the Lincoln Park Historic Trust holds it’s annual historic walking tour, which not only gives people the opportunity to see the beautiful homes and sacred spaces in one of Jersey City’s most architecturally beautiful districts, but also partially funds restoration projects, including re-planting trees in what was once JC's most ‘green’ neighborhood. Additional funding for the project is made available by New Jersey Tree Foundation Ten Cities Initiative grant dollars awarded to the City of Jersey City last year. The NJTF is a statewide, non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion, enhancement and development of urban and community forestry activities in New Jersey through education, volunteerism, community outreach, partnerships, and grants. The Foundation is committed to providing exceptional forestry programs, services and opportunities to New Jersey’s cities and towns. These flowering trees will add beauty to city streets, reduce pollution and noise, and create a better quality of life for us, our children, and generations beyond!
