I too was called by the company, Chimney Technicians, but the service offered was only to clean out the furnace flue. The cost was $50. I asked about my fireplace and was told they would clean both the furnace (which is gas) and wood burning fireplace for less than $100.
After reading the previous postings, and looking up on www.bbb.org, I was unsure if my decision to have them do the work was right
Nervously, I called Chimney Technicians on the morning of the appointment and inquired about the BBB posting to which I was told that yes, they had a few complaints; the low cost was an attempt to get more business in the area; and no, I was not on their list of jobs for the day. I was put on hold a minute while they were checking the appointment log and then was told that my “wife” had called to cancel the appointment the night before. I do not have a wife and no-one from my house called to cancel.
I hung up.
