Threat to the Lincoln Park Neighborhood

Dear residents and supporters of the historic Lincoln
Park neighborhood,

It has been brought to my attention by one our fellow
neighbors, Beth Cohen, that Mayor Healy is pushing to
have a truck transfer station constructed in our
neighborhood, on vacant land located at Rt 440 near
Duncan Ave.

The effects that this will have on our neighborhood's
quality of life, and the value of our properties could
be devastating.

An estimated 2-300 trucks will be coming in an out of
our area. The amount of filthy soot and horrible
smells this will bring to the Park as well as to our
homes is horrible. With this heavy summer heat we're
having, can you imagine your air quality with an
additional 300 trucks spewing garbage into it?

As some of you may recall, an ordinance was defeated in
which a waste transfer station was slated to be built
in the Marion neighborhood. Those residents, as well
as many of us here that became involved in stopping
this, realized that having asbestos, oil, gas fumes,
and God knows what else magnified 300% would destroy
any chance of the neighborhood redeveloping, or for
the residents to enjoy such simple pleasures as being
able to go to a park or sit outside on their front
porches.

Although Beth is a little more clear on the details, I
am now wondering if the same developer simply moved a
few blocks south to our neighborhood to rear his ugly
head.

Many of you with young children may already be aware
of the dangers to a child's developing lungs such a
polluted environent will have. With the tree planting
that we do, and the money being put into restoring
Lincoln Park, a transfer station goes totally opposite
to our goals of bringing our neighborhood back to it's
original green urban oasis.

Mayor Healy will be at a neighborhood meeting next
Thursday, 8/10 @ 6:30pm. This will be at Temple Beth
El (located on Kennedy Blvd between Harrison and
Bentley), in the lower banquet level.

If you are opposed to this, I urge you to forward this
info to any other interested parties, but most
importantly to attend and let Healy know that you
don't want your home trashed.

For further information, please contact Beth Cohen at
cohenartsed@comcast.net

Thank you for your time,

Dan Pelosi
