: The meeting went pretty smoothly...there were only a couple of interruptions. Overall, I am very pleased with what we did.

: This was our first meeting with the mayor and it was a learning experience. I hope that no one expected perfection the first time out of the box. We now know that he gives long answers so we can be prepared for that next time. It would be good for us to have him back at a future meeting to follow up on everything that he promised and also to answer the remaining questions that didn't get asked at the meeting.

: As far as the methadone clinic...he said that there was support in the community for it. He gave Reverend Brower as an example of the support from the community. Note that Rev. Brower does not live in our community! We will be revisiting this in our future meetings.

: There is a group working to re-vitalize Monticello Avenue into an Art & Entertainment district and the clinic has no place in this district that we are working on. Councilperson Richardson (Ward F) is for the methadone clinic and she is aware of what the group is working on for a revitalization (she attended one meeting and poopooed the idea of an A&E district). One of the goals of the Monticello redevelopment plan is a magnet school for the performing arts and surrouning businesses that cater to this school (music stores where you can take lessons and buy sheet music, dance stores to buy leotards, etc) plus "neighborhood necessity" stores like vegatable stands, dry cleaning etc. We can make this vision a reality however a methodone clinic in the midst of all this is counterproductive to this goal (not to mention, being between 4 present schools (PS 17, El Badr, Lincoln HS and PS 32) and hopefully the proposed magnet school.
