The sidewalk construction along Bergen Avenue from Communipaw Avenue to Montgomery Street will be completed this Spring. As most of you know, we will be having our sidewalks updated and treated in a more "historic" fashion, meaning that we will have the French Gray concrete with a patterned border along the curb of brick with new tree wells. When the contractor gets to the McGinley Square SID at Fairview to Montgomery, the pattern will change to allow for the SID to stand out from the more residential area. They will be getting pavers along the edge with corners that enhance the crosswalks for pedestrians. This project has been 2 years in the works and I want to thank all of you for your letters of support to the Mayor requesting this change order.
On another note for our area, I applied for $1.3 million for Bergen Avenue from Montgomery to Sip Avenue for a similar streetscape treatment (sidewalks, milling and paving). These dollars will also cover Montgomery from Boland to Jordan. I have received word unofficialy that our project was rated significantly higher than the other 33 projects that applied (I think we are #3). This bodes well for the possibility of being approved for the dollars (we won't know for a few weeks).
I am sure everyone will agree that our area is really beginning to look great.
