Mr Sicardi,

I read your letter in the JJ as well, and thought it was terrific. I agree that something should be done with the building. Although public use would be great, it would actually really benefit the merchants to have a permanent office in the vicinity, since so many have left. In any case, I agree that the buidling should not be given to St Peters in any way (unless they pay a huge price for it, which then goes back into the community, which I doubt would happen). St Peters is one of the few colleges in any city I've ever been to that contributes next to nothing to the community (no decent resteraunts in the area, no bookstores, parks, theatre events, movie screenings, terrific architecture, a big ZERO.
Dave, what do you suggest as far as keeping that building in the community?
Let me know how I can help!

: Dan, I saw the article that you mentioned in yesterday's JJ. We are considering what our move should be. There may be more here than meets the eye...this is what we need to be looking for so we can move forward correctly.

: : Recently there was an article about the old police station at Montgomery and Boland Streets. We all Know where that is! We all know how long the building has been vacant.

: : Now is a really great time to put pressure on our local municipal agencies and politicians to do something that would benefit the community with that building. Planning, and Redevelopment Agencies should be made aware that community involvement is sufficiently active in our area to make it in their interest that this "Public Building" remain in the hands of the Public.

: : There are lots of uses that a building such as that could be converted to. It has already been paid for by Taxpayer dollars. I do not think a building like that should go to waste!

: : If Redevelopment cannot take the responsibility of returning one building to public use, how are they supposed to handle the responsibility of a task as large as the Medical Center redevelopment project?
